Devian Live @ Corroios - Portugal - 09-05-08
This has been a killer Gig for Devian, the hall was pretty nicely crowded so it was the right ambient for some Hell to be Unleashed by Devian.
So at around 21:30 Innactive Messiah ended up their show with a quite better feedback from the audience than on previous concert, guess they where pleased at least by that.
Time now to get Devian on the stage! There where around 150 to 170 people around already if I am not wrong. So some crowd screams for Legion where there to be heard already and people where talking allot about Devian around the audience, a true good sign of their reckoning by the masses. Yet some didn't knew even what was about to hit them, some talking that Legion never should have left Marduk to what I replied "Well at the last times Marduk was probably like an old relationship where everyone fights for all and everything!", yet I was to notice allot of Legion fans so people where quite damn anxious to see him back on stage, not to mention Emil that is a quite famous drummer around.
While all band beside Legion where doin' the usual small sound check was nice to see them being hailed from the crowd, I finally felt that Devian would get the deserved Portuguese feedback with a good audience to provide them some madness in a Latin Style.
By the sound of the Intro people where already getting wild and anxious to see the former Marduk front man on Stage once again. Guess that people have surely missed him allot here for what I seen. They ended up the show impressed and saying "He is Back!", "Damn better than ever", "He Still has it!", it was nice to hear that since Legion is deserving all the best welcome back from ALL!
Once Legion entered the stage wearing a Portuguese scarf and holding in hand the Portuguese flag people completely went nuts and started headbanging and slamdancing for "Dressed in Blood" song, damn it was starting wild there. I was taking some pictures but on this gig I didn't had such static people around so I needed to fight for some stability!! haahaa!
Anyhow the song was a great start for Devian in Corroios, the audience was already in hand by all madness and great attitude on stage showing that the band was with the Audience and always close. Well we all know how Mr. Stage Restless Devil (Legion) is on every gig so flames where ignited.
"Heresy" was the following blasphemy to hit the Portuguese hordes who came to that gig, the crowd was singing and hailing the band in a quite enthusiast way, seems that people where quite enjoying Devian sound that was still a bit unknown for the majority for what it seemed to me.
Wild winds where still blowing while Legion was wishing Vader a Happy Birthday and unleashing "Scarred", haahaa the crowds seemed restless, another killer Thrashed Death Black metal tune, what I rather call Extreme Heavy Metal since their spirit reminds me allot of bands like Priest, Maiden, etc at least that spirit of having fun with the crowds and showing them that they play for them and because they support them. You know... in the True Metal Way, something a bit lost these days!
Devian where completely having fun with the crowd and the crowd provided same feedback. I remind about singing still in one song along with Erik, guess it was "Scarred" by then, damn Metal is suposed to be in this way!!
Now it was time for a special tune that Devian wouldn't be playing on other gigs on this tour. Was time to listen to "Instigator", a song dedicated to a devoted fan and supporter that was present on both gigs, I couldn't be more proud and honoured by such noble deed. Damn I sure was going wild while people kept on hailing in the front row, but yet couldn't let this opportunity pass to do a video to this song that is like you should guess my favorite ones.
Well "Instigator" was putting some more flames into the stage and into all audience while it was a one song in all tour chance so people needed to enjoy at best. Damn it was hard to keep the camera fixed since I wanted to party also!! Damn killer moments indeed.
After such great song, Devian continued blessing the audience with pure blasphemy and Metal Madness, it was time then for "Remnant Song", and like on the last show it sure was working out pretty fine live as usual. Great song once again to have audience feedback! The crowds where wild!
Sadly time for the last song and as usual "Ninewinged Serpent" was the one to KILL, haahaa the crowd sure was igniting the final flames of hell while screaming "I Fuck Your Faith...", preparing the hordes for pure madness. Hahaaa and with a nice audience by then people sure given the best feedbacks with Slamdance, Stage Diving and Headbang all along. Damn it was impressive to see all that from the stage I bet, only given the best incentive to get the band even wilder on stage also, and that was what happened. Things couldn't end up better, what a grand finale it sure was, Tomas ended up teaching the audience how to play the guitar and kill face in face with the fans and Erik could finally trust to do some stage dive himself (yeps I wouldn't risk that in Porto with so few people).
People where drove completely wild with all this killer attitude towards the fans, they felt really close to the band and Tomas can sure say so since he got hit in the face while playing so close to them heehee... a good thing with this stage was that there where no bars or anything between audience and stage so it made things allot more easy for Devian to move around and get close to the audience and right in their face. Always causing a nice effect off course.
People ended up hailing and screaming Legion name big time and loudly. A great come back for The Stage Devil! Haahaa was funny some where still asking for Marduk songs/covers but people need to learn that Devian are having a open wide vision into Metal and aren’t tightening it just because of some of their members past.
Well between the two gigs I sure can say that the Audience sure made the difference so if the gig in Porto was taking place later I am sure that Devian would have also the same kind of crowd to support them.
Anyhow it was no time to lament this, all I can say is that Devian kept their attitude no matter for 40 or for 150 people. That is to be hailed in fact!
This was without a doubt one of the best performances I've ever seen in all my metal years, so I can say that Devian are one of the best Live bands this days and band not to be missed by any chance.
It was a true blast on Stage and Devian have Killed!! The sound was way better than in Porto so the sound techs need to be hailed for this also and off course the entire band that has surely kicked ass in a uniform way. Moving like a 5 Piece Killing Unit!
